The Friend
I Never Knew

With the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk, I have had a lot of thoughts. I have had many phases of emotions including weeping tears of grief and anger from deep within. Over the past 11 days, I have intentionally waited and prayed for perspective with God’s comfort and mercy.

Grieving with the Holy Spirit

Although I didn’t know Charlie Kirk personally, I felt as though a dear friend of mine had been killed. What I have realized is that this sadness and grief I felt for a man I never met in person was not natural. It was deep. We are not deifying a man, but relating to the suffering of Christ. I believe the martyrdom of Charlie grieved the Holy Spirit. He was not the first nor the last precious martyr for the sake of the Gospel. Being baptized into Jesus we felt God’s sadness for the loss of a tremendous gift to both the world and the church. This is a spiritual reality for believers. The Holy Spirit is the Comforter given to us for times like this.

Charlie’s Voice

Charlie championed a voice and beliefs for godliness in the public square on college campuses, various meetings, and social media. He was a brilliant mind and ran his race with Grace at God’s pace in His life. He was well read and always hungry to learn, whether it be the Bible, politics, economics, culture, and even sports. He articulated Godly values with bravery, often, directly in the face of vehement opposition. He believed in the youth of America and related to them with new methods. Charlie knew that he was speaking Truth from God’s Word that was Eternal to short-sided temporal natural arguments. The eternal character of God always crushes the temporary. He was unashamed of Jesus and would have respectful conversations with anyone that would engage him. He was declaring the Truth of God’s Word in direct opposition of the kingdom of this world. More than anything else, he wanted to be remembered for having courage for His faith in the Lord Jesus Christ!

God’s Working

Charlie was like John the Baptist in our generation.

He was a forerunner.

He was preparing the way in the hearts and minds of people to receive Jesus.

He was calling people to think based on Truth and not feelings or misperceptions of their experience.

He was calling people to repentance, and the willingness to think from God’s goodness, and not from polluted humanistic selfishness.

He was awakening a nation to the importance of Truth!

God gave all mankind a free will to respond to His love.

God’s will and foreknowledge are not the same thing. God is not the author of anything evil. He is Love, He is Light, He is Life!

God is only good, trusting anything less than His true nature, will remove reception of experiencing God’s promises in our lives. We don't recieve from someone we are afraid of.

God's will is that none would perish! (2 Peter 3:9)

God works all things together for His good for those called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

The Response

Charlie’s death has caused millions of people to ask questions from their heart about God, culture, and faith.

Media cannot deny covering the reality of Jesus in the same public manner with which his murder was broadcasted. This is causing internal conversations about eternity in peoples hearts.

Death is the seed of unity in God’s kingdom. When a Martyr is sown and persecution arises, the church always grows exponentially.

We honor Charlie, but GLORIFY JESUS!

I believe we will see more people making a decision for Christ, becoming active in church, and reading their bibles in the days to come than ever before.

The Charge

  • Go and do make disciples, immerse them in God’s goodness, sonship in Jesus, and power in the Holy Spirit. Teach people to observe God’s commands, knowing God is with us.

Matthew 28:19-20

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

  • Let the response come from Jesus within.

Luke 17:21

nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”

  • Practice and verbalize God’s love, logic, and intent with the active power of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:4-5

And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

Ask people questions.
